Solar Hot Water

Heating your water using the sun makes sense.
Why burn a precious resource created by the sun thousands or millions of years ago when you can simply use the sun directly?

Solar Hot Water systems are robust, reliable, efficient and cost effective, generating around 70 to 90% of hot water needs directly from the sun with the difference being provided by a gas or electric booster, so you never run out of hot water.

We sell Evacuated Tube Solar Hot Water systems as we believe they are the most efficient solution for the majority of situations. The evacuated tube was actually developed at a Sydney university around thirty years ago and has been operating successfully for many years in different climates around the world. It provides up to 40% greater efficiency year round than flat panel solar collectors and works on the same simple principle as your thermos. Unlike flat panels which only obtain peak light exposure at midday, evacuated tubes are round, and so passively track the sun throughout the day. Evacuated tubes also have a vacuum space which insulates against heat loss, which is extremely advantageous during cold conditions and when tank temperatures are elevated.

AAE Solar (Auscorp Alternative Energy Pty Ltd) is proudly Australian owned and operated. The development team behind this product have been involved in evacuated tube solar hot water systems for many years. They have dedicated themselves to achieving the highest possible standards in producing solar hot water systems. Their research has been instrumental in the development of many of the systems seen in the market today. AAE solar hot water systems are the culmination of this design research, and the result is a refined, high performance system which is second to none on the market. AAE systems have passed level 2 frost protection. AAE collectors have been tested to minus 15°c without the need for glycols or antifreeze liquids.

AAE tubes consist of an inner and outer tube using 2mm glass, making them the strongest tubes on the world market. The inside of the tube is then coated in the latest technology, 12 layer sputtered coating for higher efficiency, which absorb the sun’s rays and retain the heat.(The AAE evacuated tube has the highest rating in Australia, retaining 97% of the sun’s thermal energy.)

This heat retention allows us to gain up to 250 degrees inside the tube! A copper heat pipe sits within an aluminium fin inside the pipe and efficiently transfers the heat to the manifold, where it is used to heat your water. The manifold and frame are made from highly durable, extruded anodized alloy with the latest European styling.

AAE has a range of products to suit most domestic or commercial applications.
Whether you are building new, renovating or simply replacing an existing system we have the products to suit your needs.

 Instantaneous Gas Boosted Systems
The most efficient way of boosting your hot water, the instantaneous system only fires up when required.

Rinnai s20 litre per minute, solar continuous flow natural gas or LPG.

Can be fitted with a 270 litre vitreous enamel tank, 250 litre Everlast stainless tank or 315 litre Everlast stainless tank.

Rinnai s26 litre per minute, solar continuous flow natural gas or LPG.

Can be fitted with a 270 litre vitreous enamel tank, 250 litre Everlast stainless tank or 315 litre Everlast stainless tank.

Rinnai s26i litre per minute, internal solar continuous flow natural gas or LPG.

Can be fitted with a 270 litre vitreous enamel tank, 250 litre Everlast stainless tank or 315 litre Everlast stainless tank.

 Gas Storage Systems
This system has been researched and designed by AAE and is perfect for the gas storage replacement market. The system operates on a ½ inch gas feed which means it can replace existing gas storage systems, and combined with the AAE solar collector, it eliminates the need for expensive installations or a mains gas upgrade!

AAE 260 litre vitreous enamel gas storage system.(40mj burner)

 Electric Boosted Systems
These systems are ideal when mains gas is not available.

AAE 270 litre glass lined storage

Everlast 250 litre & 315 litre stainless storage
(444 graded stainless)

Report for the year to 4 December 2008

Region  Emissions/cost saving this year
Ballarat  70%
East Gippsland  72%
Glenelg  70%
Greater Bendigo  75%
Greater Shepparton  77%
Latrobe  68%
Melbourne  70%
Mildura  80%
South Gippsland  69%

According to Sustainability Victoria, if all Victorian homes had a solar water heater, so far this year Victoria would have cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 2,813,850 tonnes. Thats the equivalent of:

  • taking 700,000 cars off the road for the period since January 1
  • 56.30 billion black balloons
  • 2.9% of Victorias greenhouse gases from energy.

* The solar savings percentage is based on computer simulations of the difference between the amount of energy used by a solar water heater compared to a conventional water heater for the same load used by an average water heater for an average family in Melbourne. The figures are then averaged for the week or month.

The potential savings of greenhouse gases if all Victorians used solar is calculated by taking the number of gas and electric water heaters in Victorian dwellings (from ABS 4602 2005) and multiplying it by the amount of greenhouse gases produced by a conventional water heater for Victoria. This gives the amount of greenhouse gases produced in an average week or month.

A seasonal factor is applied to account for differences in cold water temperature and amount of water used to give the total greenhouse gases. The amount of potential Greenhouse savings is calculated by multiplying this total greenhouse figure by the savings percentage for the week. Thus indicating the benefit if all gas water heaters were replaced with gas boosted solar water heaters and all electric water heaters replaced with electric boosted solar water heaters.
